The Apple Watch’s face is broken – and Apple’s latest moves won’t help

The Apple Watch Series 10 features a larger display, a thinner design and a smarter watch face. This is the only model that always displays seconds on the face of the watch in on mode. There’s only one catch. Only three clock faces support this hardware feature. Now the numbers have grown – what 4.

The situation on the Apple Watch watch face is really weird right now. People want more ways to customize the face of their watch. Third party watch face dreams have been lost in time. Meanwhile, Apple actually removes the watch’s face for no obvious reason (other than Siri’s face).

But the most bizarre strategy supports the new Apple Watch hardware features with fewer Faces.

The Apple Watch Series 10 can update continuously for a few seconds, even when always on mode. However, this feature is limited to three clock faces.

  • Digital watch face with flux, rising line indicator to track seconds
  • Reflection, Analog Face with no numbers around the dial but no reflections
  • Activity Digital, Different Digital Watch Face, Only Numerical Expression

At the launch, I thought the existing face would be speeding up with the Watchos 11 update. I was wrong.

The good news is that Apple’s new Unity rhythm face on Watchos 11.3 always supports seconds, just like the reflex.

Bad news? This sums up Apple’s Watch Face Game Plan. It introduces several new watch faces with constant seconds, and at the same time removes unpopular watch faces that lack this feature.

Ideally, this is wrong. Watchos12 updates all Watch Faces and supports seconds at any time. Standard analog watch faces with numbers such as utilities and California should always support a few seconds, especially if Apple doesn’t update each face. However, all Watch Faces must support hardware features.
