Resignation Season 3: Everything we know so far
This week, the season 2 finale of Severance arrives, leading to many questions about plans for season 3. This is everything we know so far about the future of Apple TV+’s Severance.
Announcement of season 3 update is expected soon
Apple has not yet officially renewed its retirement for the third season. But anyone who doesn’t live under the rock knows when the announcement of season 3 is a problem.
When Severance’s first season aired, Apple TV+ announced its season 2 pick of the show a few days before the finale. Streamers have followed that pattern on other shows too.
Therefore, it appears that Apple will likely announce a season 3 update of Severance at any time.
And who knows? You may get a multi-season announcement like that previously happened with both silos and slow horses.
The writer is currently working on retirement season 3.
Last month, we sat together Hollywood ReporterBen Stiller shared that retirement season 3 was “ongoing” and that Writer Room was actively working on the show in LA.
Speaking of show writers, last spring pack Severance’s creative team reported that they had undergone a major shakeup.
During the first two seasons of his retirement, Ben Stiller recruited important newcomers as a dispute between creator Dan Erickson and writer-producer Mark Friedman was reported.
Matt Veroni wrote pack:
Stiller interviewed several author producers to win a third season before the WGA strike, and quietly hired House of Card creator Beau Willimon, who recently worked for Disney+’s amazing Andor. So for a few months Willimon helped create templates for half of Season 2 and Season 3, with the show being significantly delayed in that process.
While Willimon made a significant contribution to Season 2, it sounds like it’s upcoming season 3 that he’ll have more influence.
Time to Expect Season 3 on Apple TV+
Anyone who has been airing since the first season and then following his retirement knows that the waiting times during the seasons were long.
Nearly three years have passed between the first and second seasons of Severance due to production issues, rewrites and Hollywood strikes.
So far, what we know about the timing of Season 3 is that Ben Stiller says, “This time I hope that we won’t let the audience wait three years.”
Stiller and creator Ericsson previously shared their perfect tendencies, so it’s unlikely that the show will return soon, even if Retirement Season 3 doesn’t run into the same problem during production.
Realistically, retirement season 3 will likely be a hit on Apple TV+ 2027– The second half of 2026 was an absolute early thing that we could hope for.
Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 a month and features TV shows and movies such as Ted Lasso, Severance, Morning Show, Silos and Shrinks. You can also watch it for free in several ways.
