Gurman: Apple is working on a new magic keyboard for iPad
According to the power of Newsletter’s Mark Gurman, Apple is testing the new low-end magic keyboard for the base model iPad and the new iPad Air.
Unlike the new Magic keyboard introduced in the iPad Pro lineup in May, this inexpensive Magic keyboard does not include a premium feel aluminum top case. You may use the same cheap silicone material on an old iPad magic keyboard.
This new magic keyboard could likely succeed both with the Magic Keyboard Folio (introduced on iPad 10 in 2022) and the old Magic Keyboard for iPad Air (introduced on iPad Pros in 2020). It also reportedly includes a line of features that will be new to the iPad Air’s Magic Keyboard.
Garman hopes that the keyboard will be released in mid-2025 if everything goes to plan.
If Apple ends up following this strategy, this will undoubtedly simplify the iPad keyboard lineup. This was already started by aborting the old smart keyboard that used the Butterfly switch.
Unfortunately, they probably haven’t simplified their Apple pencil lineup anytime soon.
