Over the past few months, I have been able to test out the Paper Pro that is worth noting. You can read my full review here, but in short, it really understands everything correctly about the note taking experience.

Despite being an E-ink tablet, it becomes very expensive. However, there are certainly some great parts to the experience worth comparing to the iPad Air depending on what you’re looking for in your notes to photograph school, work, or other equipment.

overview

The notable Paper Pro comes for $629, including the notable marker Plus, so comparing it to Apple’s iPad Air 11-inch may make the most sense. It comes for $599 without the Apple Pencil, and with the addition of the Apple Pencil Pro, you’ll get an extra $129. Certainly, an equivalent iPad setup runs $100 more than the notable Paper Pro.

Given the fact that iPad Air is on sale regularly and its notable Paper Pro receives an unspecified price hike on May 28th, it’s fair to say they’re in roughly the same arena.

So it costs $629 for the amazing Paper Pro setup and $728 for the comparable iPad Air setup. Which is better?

The benefits of the iPad Air

Clearly, the iPad Air has one important advantage. Run iOS, make millions of apps available, browse the web, play games, stream TV shows/movies, and more. For some, it might end the comparison and make the iPad a clear winner, but I disagree.

Yes, if you want your tablet to do all those things for you, the iPad Air is not easy. After all, the iPad Air is a generic tablet that does more for you.

However, I argue that if there are laptops that come with tablets, the iPad Air could fall into the category of slight redundancy. Most of what you want to do with an iPad can be done on a laptop except for features that rely on all kinds of touchscreen/stylus.

The iPad is great, and if you want it, you should choose it. But I have an alternative argument to offer…

Notable Paper Pro does one thing really well. Thinking at first, you might think: why do I pay so much for a device that only does one?

Well, that’s because it really works. There is also a second aspect to this discussion. It’s focus.

If your device can’t do anything else, it’s much easier to focus on what you’re doing. If you are taking notes while studying, you can easily check notifications and be tempted to check the notification centre. Alternatively, if you’re reading an e-book, you can easily swipe to enter another app.

The biggest advantage of Paper Pro to note is that you can’t easily get lost in the modern world of technology, while maintaining important technical features such as cloud backup of notes. Plus, you don’t have to worry about carrying physical paper around.

Finally, notable paper pros have rubber feet in the back so you don’t have to worry about scratching them, whether they’re flat on the table or caseless.

Specification comparison

Here is a quick summary of all the key specifications between the two devices: The notable strengths of the Paper Pro are undoubtedly in its battery, form factor and stylus. The iPad has some neat features on the Apple Pencil Pro, and is also cleared in the display category. Both devices also offer keyboards for entered memos, but only the iPad offers the trackpad.

summary

Overall, I’m not going to convince anyone who wants to buy an iPad that they should buy a notable Paper Pro. It’s not worth the fact that the iPad Air does more for almost the same cost.

But if you haven’t bought this to make it your primary computing device, I’d argue that notable paper is a valuable alternative, especially if you really want something that you can really zone in. Notable Paper Pro feels much better at writing, with a much longer battery life and mastering the minimalist form of digital note-taking.
