Sky Glass Gen 2: Introduction

Sky Glass first appeared in 2021 as a television everything in one who promised to simplify his visualization experience by integrating Sky TV and denying the need for a satellite dish.

In Sky Glass, Sky also offered the opportunity to pay the TV in monthly installments along with a Sky package, so it is more accessible than other televisions abandoning the high initial disbursement costs.

Four years after its start, Sky Glass is back with a renewed model: the Sky Glass Gen 2, as officially called. Sky Glass Gen 2 intervenes with improved images and sound, but does its ambitious vision deliver? I have spent several months with the 55 -inch model on the wall of my room to find out.

Design and connections

  • 43 -inch size, 55 inches and 65 inches
  • Three color options
  • 3x HDMI ports 2.1

First I will talk about the design because, although the TVs are generally great black rectangles found in their wall or at the top of a sideboard, there are some differences in their designs, whether he opts for Sky, Panasonic, Samsung or LG.

The Sky Glass Gen 2 maintains the same square industrial aspect of its predecessor and 45 mm thick, it is quite thick. I had the volcanic gray (black) model for review, which only exacerbates the volume, although the silver and blue options of the Atlantic are better if you want a softer appearance.

While the general television design remains similar to the original Sky Glass, the new stand is a considerable improvement. It is an intelligent design where the TV is located in two metal plugs that disappear in the television body, offering a much cleaner appearance and installation faster than before.

The low heavy plate makes it very resistant, and the whole system feels well designed. Of course, you can also mount it on the wall, as I have done, but keep in mind that the official wall of the sky of the sky is not included in the box as it was with the original Sky Glass, which costs additional £ 99.

However, it is worth mentioning that the Sky Glass Gen 2 is compatible with the standard mounts, so if it already has a TV wall support, the officer may not need.

In terms of ports, you will find three HDMI 2.1 ports in the back. However, the panel, which I will talk about in a second, is limited to 60Hz, so there is no support of 120Hz or 144Hz for modern games consoles or PC players, and there is no variable update rate (VRR).

There is support for the automatic latency mode (Allm) of those HDMI 2.1 ports, which guarantees a faster response time for the games, but will not get a visual indicator that it is active when you connect a compatible device, so take that into account.

There is also no button dedicated in the remote control included with Sky Glass Gen 2 to change the tickets, so it must be directed to the lower part of the electronic program guide (EPG), or turn on the external device to have the TV switch automatically. It is not a problem as such, just a little less flexible than other televisions.

Recent sources appear if you go to the left in the upper rail, so it is a glass tip practice of the sky that is worth remembering.

In general, the entire configuration process is designed for convenience with an ‘plug and play’ approach that really is what Sky Glass Gen 2 makes attractive.

Configure it, turn it on, log in to a sky account and will be on the knee in the wonderful world of Sky content in minutes. Just be sure to have a good Wi-Fi connection, less than 25 Mbps is not recommended.

Image quality

  • 4K HDR quantum dot
  • Visualization modes
  • 3,840 x 2,160 resolution

The Sky Glass Gen 2 has a 4K HDR quantum point screen with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160. This is not an OLED panel, like some of the best televisions and is a panel with quantum points LED backlight (QLED).

While qled offers rich colors, and there is support for HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG here, fight with absolute blacks and can exhibit some flowering of background light compared to OLED.

That said, there are notable improvements in the quality of the image on the original glass and, although it does not compete with higher quality screens, it remains a decent experience. Sky has implemented a better anti -reflection technology and a brighter LCD panel with more attenuation control, which translates into better performance in darker scenes and improved black levels.

It is definitely brighter than before, and in my room, even in dark conditions, it looks good, while it is bright enough to cut the glow of the window during the day. Turning off the automatic backlight function can also help further reduce reflexes if you have a particularly large window near where the Glass Gen 2 is placing.

The visualization from an angle results in a slight loss in the quality of the image, although it is better than before and probably will not observe most of the time.

Sky has also renewed its image modes, offering car, entertainment, sports, movies, vivid music and extra vivid. The automatic mode does a decent job when adjusting the image to what you are watching, although if you are someone who wants your television to really establish color, you can consider changing vivid or extra vivid. None of the ways is applied when seeing the Dolby Vision content, which is not surprising, since that would defeat Dolby Vision.

It is when the Dolby Vision content is seen where the image also shines on this TV, thanks to the increase in brightness, so if you want the best image that Sky Glass Glass 2 has to offer, see something like Bridgerton on Netflix.

In addition to the modes, there are not many other options to adjust the image. That will not matter to some, but if you are someone who likes to adjust the configuration of meticulously fine images, you will find the minimum options compared to other televisions here.

Sound quality

  • Seven -speaking sound system
  • Bass reinforcement
  • Night mode

One of Sky Glass’s outstanding features is its integrated sound bar, and the Glass Gen 2 continues this tradition with impressive results. It sounds great, and although I still recommend connecting a sound bar, such as Sonos Beam or Sonos Arc Ultra, if you are a true range for your audio quality, there is a lot of blow of this TV. Certainly, it is better than the sound ready to use from many televisions, which offers a robust audio experience of a single cash solution and for an integrated system, it is commendable.

The sound system now has seven speakers, which is an improvement on the original glass model, which offers a higher height effect thanks to two upper shooting speakers. Three speakers shoot at you, and dual woofers provide a decent amount of serious.

The configurations are quite minimal such as the image configuration, but you get a low reinforcement and a speech the speaking, which I think they are useful addition. I recommend lighting the low reinforcement for movies, while the discourse enhancer function is good to see the night when you may not want to wake up the little ones, but still listen to what is said clearly.

Speaking of observation of the night, there is also a night mode to reduce the volume and the bass at night, which I have activated during much of my review period, since the Glass Gen 2 is in the room above. It is also worth mentioning that the sound is linked to visualization modes, and that makes sports mode more immersive, while the musical mode is stereo and a little more flat.

Skyos and experience

For existing SKY users, the Skyos interface will feel instantly familiar and makes everyone in the content of the sky very accessible. You will find several suggestions and a series of rails that include “Continue Looking” (although it cannot eliminate its programs, which is my biggest Bear Bug), “Top 10 this week”, as well as a section for applications and services followed by multiple additional rails that highlight the content. There is a lot of displacement, but during that displacement, you are likely to find a lot of content that you want to see.

The configuration and search are at the bottom of the screen, which is a bit painful to get there if you are trying to address something quickly, but you can use your voice to get to them if you need it and I found that most of the time. Simply press the microphone button on the remote control and say “configuration” or you can say “hello sky, configuration”.

You can also use your voice to look for content and once you feel comfortable talking to your TV as you would with an intelligent speaker, it is a good experience and the fastest way to access the content. Sky occasionally has some fun tips and tricks for popular programs that are also excellent to test, and if you lose the remote control of Glass Gen 2, you can say “Hello sky, find my remote control” so that it is.

Sky Glass Gen 2 also supports a wide range of applications, from Netflix to Iplayer, so there is easy access to your favorite transmission services. Some play better than others, but the point is that everyone is there. There is no built -in storage, so you cannot record programs in the traditional sense as you can in Sky Q, but you can add content to the reproduction list for visualization at the request and can configure different reproduction lists for different members of your home.

In other places, some characteristics, such as the mode of movement of uses or “always alert” in Sky Glass Gen 2, are not ideal for a bedroom environment, since the TV can sometimes increase life in the middle of the night when you throw an arm in the air during disturbed sleep, but they can be practical in a living room environment.

For players, as mentioned above, the lack of update rate support of 120Hz/144Hz and VRR means that it will not get the best experience of modern consoles, although it can connect them and use them with Sky Glass Glass Gen 2.

Price and availability

You can buy the Sky Glass Gen 2 in monthly payments, which is its main point of sale. It costs £ 14 per month for the 43 -inch model in a 48 -month contract, £ 19 for the 55 -inch model, or £ 24 for the 65 inches. These prices double if you opt for the 24 -month contract.

Alternatively, you can buy Sky Glass Gen 2 directly for £ 699 (43 inches), £ 949 (55 inches) or £ 1199 (65 inches), but if I was going to do that, you may want to consider other TV options that can have a better image quality, and combine it with Sky Stream.

You can keep the TV once you have finished your payments, but remember that you must also pay for a Sky TV package. These begin from £ 15 to month in addition to the cost of the TV, and can add the channels you want accordingly, be it movies, sports or netflix and Disney.

Final thoughts

The Sky Glass 2 is a solid iteration in the original, which provides welcome improvements to both image and sound quality. It is an attractive proposal for those who want a television package all in one with integrated Sky, which offers a lot of convenience factor, while the ability to buy the TV in monthly payments makes it more accessible than other televisions.

It is a bit voluminous and will not satisfy the demanding audiophile without an additional sound bar, the serious player who seeks maximum performance or those after the image quality better image, but Sky Glass Gen 2 offers an surprisingly good integrated sound experience, an image sufficiently decent, excellent ease of use and the integration without sewing in the world of Sky of Content

If you are looking for a simple, convenient and well designed way to obtain all its sky content and apply transmission in one place, and it has a robust Wi-Fi connection, it is definitely worth considering the Sky Glass 2.
