
Apple TV+ received no Oscar nominations for movies this year
TV shows on Apple TV+ have been doing well lately, but movies are still a struggle for the streamer. Today’s newly announced Oscar nominations confirm that Apple has received zero nominations in total.

Today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 97th Oscars.
And Apple didn’t win a single award, including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Documentary, and Best Cinematography.
Apple TV+ movies were nowhere to be found.

Early Oscar success lost to changes in film strategy
Back in 2022, Apple TV+ was the first streaming service to win Best Picture at the Oscars. CODA beat out the competition and brought Apple the most prestigious film award.
CODA’s win was especially significant since even Netflix had never won Best Picture before.
But since then, Apple’s movie success and strategy has waned.
After a flurry of theatrical box office success and Wolf’s last-minute shift to streaming, Apple is shifting its movie strategy, releasing few theatrical films and instead focusing on streaming-only titles. It is reported that then.
Apple also appears to be prioritizing more mass-market films over past Oscar-aimed projects. That includes the upcoming big-budget F1 movie, which aims to be Apple’s first summer blockbuster.
Perhaps considering this change, not getting nominated for an Oscar isn’t a big loss for the company. But still, considering Apple’s early Oscar success, that must be a shame.
