Apple’s first foldable iPhone may have a creaseless display, but it doesn’t have a face ID and costs over $2000
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today shared his expectations for the Apple Foldable iPhone, scheduled for release in 2026.
Kuo says the Apple Folding is located as a top-class iPhone with a price tag for an eyewitness. It may cost more than $2,000. However, customers are expected to get premium hardware specifications, including a casing that is 4.5 mm thick when folded, a display that is visible and unfolded when folded, and a stainless steel and titanium alloy hinge. However, thinness could also occur at the price of the Face ID, with Kuo predicting that the Touch ID will return.
Kuo said thickness and internal space constraints do not appear to include Face ID modules in the first generation devices. Touch ID biometric authentication is available instead using the capacitive side button. This is similar to the Touch ID button on the iPad Air, but the first non-home button iPhone to use fingerprint recognition.
Kuo expects the device to have a folding book design with an internal display of about 7.8 inches and an external display of 5.5 inches. This means that when your iPhone is unfolded it looks similar to the iPad mini screen. Apple is also expected to promote the device as one of the first foldable possibilities with invisible creases, increasing the device’s premium status. Apple is believed to be developing a foldable MacBook/iPad with an 18-inch display with the same invisible crease technology.
When it comes to cameras, analysts believe the device has two cameras. One front-facing camera is positioned for use in both folded and deployed configurations. The rear camera has two lenses.
Kuo says that a foldable iPhone measures approximately 4.5 mm when unfolded, or 9.5 mm thick when folded. This isn’t the thinnest folding type we’ve ever seen, but it’s close. The most popular folding on the market today from something like Samsung measures about 12 mm when folded.
The final specs are clearly trapped, with mass production coming into effect in the fourth quarter of next year. The first iteration of a foldable iPhone results in a relatively low volume due to the complex production process of the device. Kuo expects to ship in the range of 30,000,000 units in 2026, with sales from 2027 to 2027. This estimate includes sales for the second generation model, which is expected to be sold in the second half of 2027.
