Verdict

A Wi-Fi 7 mesh system considerably cheaper than the one we have seen before, the Eero 7 obtains the price abandoning the 6 GHz network. How much difference makes it depends on where it lives: if it has many other Wi-Fi networks around it, this system will not be so fast; If you live in an area without congestion (or you can place a satellite in one to expand an Eero system), this system can be very fast with Wi-Fi 7 customers. In general, it is a solid system, but does not allow the 7 in the name to influence its decision.

  • Good price

Eero 7: Introduction

Wi-Fi 7 has proven to be incredible in terms of speeds, but it is also surprisingly expensive to buy.

Although some more medium -rank systems reach the market, there has really not been a really affordable system so far with the Eero 7 system.

To reduce the price, Amazon has removed the covers of the Eero 7, which was launched earlier this year together with the new Pro 7.

It was in 2023 that Amazon first took Eero along the Wi-Fi 7 road with the amazingly fast, but also amazingly expensive, Eero Max 7.

Sitting under Max 7 in Eero’s hierarchy, but above the Eero Pro 6e and Eero 6+, the new Wi-Fi 7 duo makes the speeds of multiple gigabites more accessible and will boost the future its domestic network in the coming years.

It is the Eero 7 that we have in review here; which is $ 30 more than 6E to $ 169.99 for a single unit, and is a double band of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, which offers wireless speeds of up to 1.8 Gbps and wired speeds of up to 2.3 Gbps if you use the 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports on the back.

However, it does not have the 6 GHz band, so it is not capable of the fastest transfer speeds and works better in an area with little congestion.

But if that is convenient, this is a good mesh system, driven by one of the best business applications. Keep reading to get our full review.

Configuration and specifications

The Eero Max 7 used much larger satellites than other Eero systems, but the Eero 7 has returned to the smallest size, similar to the pro 6 eero. That makes them easier to place, and mix better with the environment.

There is the option to buy the system as a package of three ($ 349.99), two packages ($ 279.99) or individually to expand a current system ($ 169.99). That makes the Eero 7 much cheaper than other Wi-Fi 7 systems.

In an independent system, an Eero 7 device must act as the gateway, connecting to the Internet; The other devices are satellites.

There is also the option to connect the Eero 7 to any existing Eero system, although doing so with an older standard version will limit the speed and reduce the bandwidth of the available channel. I would only use this with other Eero 7 or Wi-Fi 7 systems.

Each satellite has two 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports in the back. That is an orderly and free update to network speeds, particularly because the standard will be executed on the standard CAT 5E wiring.

In addition to cable devices, you can connect Eero 7 devices using a 2.5 Gigabit (wiring backhaul) instead of a wireless backhaul.

Since there is no dedicated channel for the connection between satellite, a cable redhaul can be a good way to improve performance, as well as provide the option to place a satellite in a larger range, as in a construction.

Each Eero 7 device uses Wi-Fi 7, but only uses the 2.4GHz bands (2 × 2) and 5GHz (2 × 2); There is no support for the 6GHz band, which has less rank but offers much faster yields.

On paper, then, Eero 7 does not seem so different from the Eero 6+. But Wi-Fi 7 offers some advantages over Wi-Fi 6, even in Dual Band.

That includes broader radio bands (up to 240MHz, compared to 160MHz in the Eero 6+), and the 4K Qam support, which effectively means that the system can transfer 20% more data.

Of course, all these characteristics depend on a less congested radio space, which is more difficult to guarantee with 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Both bands can be used at the same time with Wi-Fi 7 customers, which increases the maximum possible speed that a device can use.

In general, Eero 7 has a maximum yield of 1.8 GBIT/s, compared to the 1GBit/s offered by Eero 6+. That is a considerable advantage in paper, although real yields, as discussed below, varies.

Characteristics

Eero 7 works in the same way as any other Eero device, controlled through the cloud using the Eero application.

It is a really brilliant system that is easy to use and control, with a clear screen that shows the status of the network and a list of all connected devices.

App-ad-

Free, you can create profiles for each person at home and assign their devices, programming when they can and cannot access the Internet. For more you need Eero Plus ($ 99.99/£ 99.99 annually).

With this subscription, it obtains an adequate web filtering, including the option to block specific sites and applications, such as Snapchat or Roblox, and subscriptions to malwarebytes, 1Password and a VPN.

It also obtains Internet backup functions, which allow you to designate a second Wi-Fi network as a backup in case your main connection decreases.

This could be a Wi-Fi access point, a 5G router or a residents network. And, to avoid swamping a low speed connection, you can even choose which devices you can use. In general, Eero Plus is worth the rate, especially if he has children at home.

Smart Home users get Zigbee and the subprocess incorporated, controllable by connection of the system with their Alexa.

In addition, Alexa’s integration is available, providing voice control. This still works better in the United States than in the United Kingdom, offering voice control over individual devices, profiles and allowing the guest network to activate and outside. In the United Kingdom, I could stop a profile and that was all.

The application does not offer much in advanced controls, such as configuring your own network channel.

Rather, the system takes care of everything for you. In particular, I have not had a problem with this, but if you want to see what the system is doing and adjust it manually, this is not the mesh system for you.

Performance

The main advantage of Wi-Fi 7 is its use of the 6 GHz band, which offers less congestion and faster speeds at short distance. Without this, the performance of Eero 7 depends a lot on local interference.

I tried using Openspeedtest, with an iPhone 16 pro acting as the client. In the same room as Eero 7, I obtained yields of 600.05 Mbit/sec, which is good but not much faster than the 561.75mbit/sec that Eero 6+ achieved under the same conditions.

When passing to the first floor of my house, the Eero 7 fell to 361.45 mbit/sec and, on the second floor, the speeds were 218.70 Mbit/sec. That is better than the Eero 6+, but not for a large amount, and the speeds are far behind what the Eero Max 7 achieved.

However, living in a house on terraces in London, there are many nearby networks, all interfering with the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

I relocated an Eero 7 satellite to my garden office, where there is significantly less interference. Here, I saw yields of 1297.55 mbit/s, a piece behind the Eero 7 Max but much faster than any Wi-Fi 6 system that I have tried.

This highlights the problem of not having 6GHz: the speeds are only good if there is relatively little interference around it.

Final thoughts

Price, Eero 7 is fast when there is no interference, but not so fast when there is much. If you live in the country with few wireless networks around you, this is a cheap and reliable mesh system; For most of us, it does not offer much more than a Wi-Fi 6 system and it is better to buy one of these or spend more on a Wi-Fi 7 system with 6 GHz networks.

However, if you have an Eero 7 Max system, and you only need a cheap node to screw yourself to improve coverage in a part of your home where you do not need maximum speeds, Eero 7 could adapt.

How do we try

When we publish our reviews, they may be sure they are the result of “living” with long -term tests.

Start Wi-Fi devices play a key role in control, an intelligent home ecosystem or a range of products that supposedly work in harmony.

Because we are testing the smart house kit all day, every day, we know what matters and how a particular intelligent controller compares with the alternatives that could also be considering.

Our reviews are integral, objective and fair and, of course, we are never paid directly to check a device.

Read our guide on how we try to learn more.
