Yesterday, Apple launched its new iPhone 16E, the cheapest new iPhone model in its lineup. Brings Apple Intelligence, Face ID, USB-C, 48MP Fusion Camera and more.
Obviously, the iPhone 16E is a notable upgrade on the iPhone SE 3. However, it’s easy to compare with previous generation entry-level iPhones, such as the iPhone 12, 13, 14, and even the iPhone 15, for many major reasons. . I’ll jump in here.
iPhone 12 vs iPhone 16e
The iPhone 12 was the first iPhone redesign since the iPhone X, and presents the boxy design language that lives in the iPhone lineup to this day. It was the first iPhone to have 5G, and used a slightly innumerable early-generation Qualcomm 5G modems. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16E uses apples first in-house with 5G modems, making it more power efficient.
Between USB-C, it’s an almost easy upgrade between the smaller notches, Apple Intelligence, and the iPhone 16E, which is the larger camera sensor.

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 16E
There are some notable upgrades using the iPhone 16E above the 2021 iPhone 13. In most cases, this is a universal improvement, except for the fact that they are losing out on the ultrawiid camera at the rear. However, the iPhone 16E has the iPhone 15’s 48MP camera sensor, so you can take photos with double zoom and receive the “optical quality” that the iPhone 13 cannot do.

Essentially, the common theme here is that the iPhone 16E is an overall upgrade to iPhones older than the latest generation of iPhone 16.
Get USB-C, Apple Intelligence support, and other upgrade suites, primarily at the expense of ultra-width lenses. The main exception to this rule is the iPhone 15, which means you’ll also lose Dynamic Island. No matter which iPhone you are coming from, you can also get the best battery life on a 6.1-inch iPhone.
