The new M4 Pro Mac Mini and New M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro are the first to feature Thunderbolt 5 ports. Thunderbolt 5 offers two-way transfer speeds up to 80GB/s, or twice as fast as Thunderbolt 4. You can also use 120GB/s bandwidth mode to drive high resolution displays.

However, the Thunderbolt 5 accessories universe is still in its early stages. OWC today announced its first Thunderbolt 5 dock. This is priced at $189.

This is just the second Thunderbolt 5 dock accessory on the market. The other was released by Kensington last month. Kensington is an SD5000T5 docking station with countless Thunderbolt 5 downstream ports and legacy IOs and SD card readers like USB-A.

The OWC dock is simpler, and aims to convert one Thunderbolt 5 port on your Mac into three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports and one USB-A port. Dock allows users to connect their machines to up to three 8K monitors (using DisplayStream compression) with just a single cable.

You can also connect Super First external storage or other Thunderbolt 5 accessories when you arrive at the market. The dock also supplies up to 140 watts of power to the Thunderbolt 5 cable, allowing you to charge your Connected MacBook Pro at full speed.

Thunderbolt 5 is fully backwards compatible, so you don’t have to worry about conflicting standards. Older Thunderbolt or USB devices running through a USB-C cable can be connected and function properly. Naturally, it runs at slower speeds than previous generation standards.

The OWC Dock will have its first delivery arrives in December and can be pre-ordered.
