CES 2025: D1 Ultra launched along with new smart locks and security cameras

TCL has stepped up its smart home efforts by showing off a trio of new connected devices in Las Vegas at CES 2025.

The Chinese brand is best known in the Western world for its televisions and audiovisual equipment (and the occasional kitchen appliance), so it’s exciting to see it expand into the smart home as well, just as it has done in its home country.

Headlining the bill at CES 2025 is the new TCL Smart Lock D1 Ultra, described as “the world’s first 4-in-1 smart lock.”

That 4-in-1 claim refers to the different features of the Smart Lock D1 Ultra; His nickname doesn’t really do him justice.

That’s because it’s not just a smart lock: it’s also a security camera, video doorbell, and digital display all in one.

The idea is that you hit it at the front door and it can perform the tasks of several devices at the same time.

On the outside you’ll find a touch panel with numbers to unlock with a code, along with a fingerprint scanner, a 2K front camera, and a doorbell button.

Inside is the unlocking bolt, along with a 3.5-inch screen to show you what’s happening on the other side.

In addition to fingerprint and passcode entry, you can also unlock the D1 Ultra using voice commands (Alexa or Google Assistant), a physical key, or a smartphone app.

It has AI (of course it does) on board for human detection, but you’ll have to shell out more for cloud storage using Tuya IoT Cloud.

The TCL Smart Lock D1 Ultra will go on sale in the coming months, the price has not yet been revealed.

Also on display in Las Vegas will be the TCL Smart Lock D1 Pro, a device that launched late last year.

With AI-powered palm vein recognition technology, the D1 Pro uses near-infrared light to illuminate the palm, causing hemoglobin in the blood to absorb the light, creating detailed and unique palm vein information. .

TCL tells us that vein patterns are difficult to replicate and are unique to each individual, even between identical twins.

Like the Ultra, the D1 Pro has multiple unlocking methods and is also compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

As mentioned, the D1 Pro launched late last year – it costs $199 in the US.

TCL also used CES 2025 to demo the Security Cam B1, a EufyCam S3 Pro replica, complete with a solar panel on top.

Like the D1 Pro, this 2K security camera went on sale in late 2024 and you can buy it for $99.99.
