Ever Trend Zone Apple no longer reports its sales numbers, but analysts estimate that the company sells hundreds of millions of new iPhones each year. Many evertrendzone Readers may purchase new models with features such as camera upgrades and Apple Intelligence. New data reveals very different motivations for the majority of buyers.
iPhone sales are powered by far more broken phones than anything
CIRP has published a new report that provides insight into what encourages you to buy new iPhones.
And despite how much money and effort is put into promoting new iPhones and developing new features, it appears to be driving a small percentage of sales.
Michael Levin and Josh Lotz write:
40% of buyers indicate that they purchased a new iPhone due to an old iPhone issue. It was still working, but it proved to be slower, damaged display, reduced battery life or disappointing. Another 27% have been replaced by phones that are completely insurgically unsurgery or lost or stolen.
Only 13% of iPhone buyers reported that they had specially reported an upgrade to take advantage of the new features. Some of these included Android switchers that wanted to communicate better with iOS users.

In some respects, CIRP data is not surprising. Of course, people buy iPhones because the old ones aren’t working properly.
But what’s surprising to me is how little share of people are buying for new features. Also, as the report points out, 13% includes Android Switchers that require the benefits of iMessage.
13% of the hundreds of millions of iPhones sold each year are still somewhat important. However, it looks surprisingly low when compared to all the other reasons people buy an iPhone.
