With WWDC around the corner, future MacOS features could rekindle your interest in Apple’s MAC lineup. Whether you’re buying your first Mac or upgrading your aging Mac, there’s the latest in what comes next.

Apple recently launched the M4 MacBook Air, along with an updated Mac Studio model that can be configured with an M3 Ultra or M4 Max chip. These took part in last year’s MacBook Pro, IMAC, and Mac Mini updates with the M4.

Over the next few months, Apple is expected to continue its deployment of Apple silicon across other lineups, including the debut of the M5 chip. According to the latest rumours, this is something you’ll look forward to until the end of the year.

MacBook Pro

According to BloombergMark Garman of Apple could kick off the M5 generation with a new MacBook Pro model this fall, with the M5 iPad Pro following in the first half of 2026.

The M5 chip is expected to use TSMC’s third-generation 3NM manufacturing, rather than the previously rumored 2NM. A major hardware redesign is also not expected this year, as it appears to be on the 2026 card.

The current MacBook Pro lineup was last updated in October 2024, so I feel it’s pretty safe to assume that it could be released at the same time this year.

iMac

Timing here is difficult as IMAC updates do not follow a predictable pattern. Apple refreshed the 24-inch IMAC last year, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo saying that a 32-inch mini-driven model could arrive in 2025. To be precise, he said it could arrive between the second half of 2024 and 2025.

However, unless you specifically offer a larger screen, now may be a good time to buy. Because Apple previously skipped chip generation with IMAC, redesigned or M5-equipped versions may not be visible until much later in the cycle.

Mac Pro

Other models in the lineup have moved to the M3 or M4, but the Mac Pro is in Limbo and still remains with the mid-2023 Ultra.

The updates for the Mac Pro have been rumored in mid-25, but everyone’s guess what chip it uses. When the company updated MAC Studio with the M4 Max and Surprise M3 Ultra, it told reviewers that not all chip generations would include ultra-tier options.

Does that mean that Mac Studio won’t get M4 Ultra, or if there’s no M4 Ultra it’s still unknown. It makes sense for a Mac Pro to get the M4 Ultra, but when does something make sense about the Mac Pro?

If you’ve been enduring to get a Mac Pro, you can wait a little longer as you’re on the territorial crisis of mid-2025. But don’t be surprised if the rumors end in a few weeks until late 2025. It’s not the first time.
