
WSJ: The iPhone 17 air is cheaper than expected. Foldable iPhone for 2026
According to a new report from Wall Street Journal This morning, Apple is working on two new folding devices from 2026 onwards. The report also provides details on the rumored Ultra Slim iPhone 17 model.

Wall Street Journal It backed up many of the air details of the major iPhone 17 and called it a “bid to revive growth” after years of incremental upgrades. Details are as follows:
Starting next year, Apple plans to introduce an iPhone that will be thinner than the current model’s profile of approximately 8mm, said those familiar with the company’s plans. This model is intended to be cheaper than the Pro model, with a simplified camera system to reduce costs.
Initially, many people expected the iPhone 17 Air to be Apple’s most expensive iPhone, which cost more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. but, Wall Street Journal Currently, it reports opposition, stating it will be cheaper than the Pro model.
Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999. This means that the air on the iPhone 17 will be exchanged for the same price range as the iPhone 16, which is around $900.
According to Wall Street Journalthe iPhone 17 Air “provides an alternative” to consumers looking to get a sophisticated phone, so don’t worry about compromise. Apple definitely has a big bet on the ultra-thin form factor that is visually appealing.
New foldable devices
On top of that, there are expectations of two new foldable devices, a larger device intended to act as an iPhone and a laptop. Large devices are expected to have a 19-inch display when deployed, and are mainly lined up Bloomberg A report from this morning. The device was expected to start first, but it appears that the foldable iPhone is taking priority.
In their report, Wall Street Journal The foldable iPhone “will expand to a larger display size than the iPhone 16 Pro Max,” making the display at least 7 inches. The iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch display.
Apple was experimenting with displays on the outside of the device when folded, but the company now supports inward folding, just like any other device on the market. The device has been developed for quite some time, but Apple faced hinge and display cover issues, causing some delays.
Apple executives are pushing for the 2026 release of foldable iPhones, but the company may need more time to get things right.
